Advent-ure 2010: My “Faux Mantel”

I thought this year would be different. I thought this year, I would have a fireplace, and a mantel for stockings and a focal point for our nativity or Advent wreath. Alas,.. I do not. = ( But what I do have, which might actually be bigger than most mantels, is my piano! = ) Each year I move my everyday piano decor aside and completely deck out the top of the piano. It’s a good place to put a nativity scene or advent candle wreath – or both! Oh, this makes me smile! In keeping with the color scheme

Advent-ure 2010: Christmas Centerpiece

You know what is awesome about building your Christmas decor collection slowly year after year? Eventually you have enough stuff to work with and switch it up and make things different and interesting! ; ) This is the first year that I really feel like I have Christmas decorations in more than just our living room. Last year I had a *little* elsewhere, but not really. I don’t ever want to make Christmas more about the decorations and lights than it needs to be, those things have their place and I need them to stay there. But decorations so help

Where Is He?

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” Matthew 2:1-2 (emphasis mine) Where is he… we… have come to worship him. Sometimes even with the best intentions, the most focused devotionals, the most wonderfully written stories and best-laid plans.. sometimes Christmas day comes rushing toward us like a freight train full of goodies and fun threatening to

O (Lovely) Christmas Tree! ~ Advent-ure 2010

It’s no secret that my favorite Christmas decoration is my Christmas tree! In the past we’ve discussed my need for Christmas tree therapy. We took the time to diagnose my problem and we saw just how bad it was. I need help. But DID YOU KNOW that I never put up pictures of my Christmas tree last year? Not one! (And I took MANY.) Last year we bought a new tree – a prelit tree! A tree that doesn’t look sad and “threadbare” like our previous tree. A pretty little tree. A pretty little tree with even MORE ornaments than

Advent-ure 2010 ~ A Jesse Tree

We have never used a Jesse tree before! Usually, we countdown through Advent with an Advent calendar that we’ve made. But this year, for the first time ever, we’re going to use a JESSE TREE that we’ve made. Oh how fun is this! A Jesse tree uses ornaments that represent people in Jesus’ family tree. From creation, through the line of Jesse and David, down to Jesus. There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. Isaiah 11:1 A daily reading accompanies each ornament and as each day of

Advent-ure 2010

It’s the MOST. WONDERFUL. TIME. Of the whole entire year. I know that’s a bit cliche, but it’s true. Advent, the whole entire month of December, IS a wonderful time. Partially because everyone is excited over the cooler weather, the promise (or delivery) of snow and the holidays. Mostly because this is the time of year to celebrate THE PURPOSE. The reason for everything. God sent His son to fulfill His purpose, to help us fulfill our purpose — To Glorify God. We have a lot to celebrate! It’s become a tradition here on my blog to host an Advent
