The bible flat out tells us that when we become God’s children we will change.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.2 Corinthians 5:17

Sometimes God asks us to change a small piece at a time. Little baby steps of growth.

Other times, it’s more like an extreme makeover – Holy Ghost style. God reveals something to you, some way that you’re not fully committed to him, some thing you are hanging onto, some attitude you need to change,… and the only solution is to pull the gloves on, grab those work boots, and take the leap of faith into uncharted territory.

I can say with full conviction that this is one reason that accountability partners are so necessary. Everyone needs someone they can be completely honest with, someone they can trust to keep them on track and be straight with them, someone who will cheer them on as they yank out the weeds of sin and cultivate the flowers of Christ-like-ness.

The important thing to remember is that though this kind of change isn’t easy, the process edifies us, makes us more Christ-like, and brings about better things. I have been given the assignment this week to memorize Romans 8:28-29.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

So though these changes may seem extreme, or intimidating, or difficult, press on towards that goal, the end result of being more like Christ with every step that we take. Take hope in the fact that He is near. Find joy in the growth and strength God provides. In fact, be excited about the changes brought on by these extreme spiritual makeovers. God is good.

Hey, y’all! I’m Amber and I wear many hats. I drink a ton of coffee and I’m constantly sweeping crumbs off the floor. After 18 years of homeschooling, I’m getting close to graduating my third child and now we are starting over at preschool with our fourth, Lil Miss Mouse. She keeps us young and she’s the main reason for my excessive coffee consumption. Drink up!
