Clearing Cobwebs

You know how sometimes you are going about your business all fine and dandy and then you switch on a table lamp and suddenly, the biggest cobweb ever catches your attention out of the corner of your eye? You look up and realize there’s not one but several.. The kind of cobwebs that make it look as though you never clean your house ever. Your house might as well belong to The Munsters.* I mean, yeah you’ve been doing SOMETHING around the house because the kids have been eating and they have clothes and you’ve kept everyone alive. But obviously,

When You Feel Like You Flunked Out of Last Year

I wouldn’t say that last year was a total failure. After all, it got off to a great start. I just don’t feel like ended well, and I don’t “FEEL” like I exactly “passed” either. So after brooding over not getting enough done around the house, spending too much time on the internet, not doing well enough with school, and kinda going crazy — I finally decided that I’d focus on what I DID like. How’s that? My word for 2013 was “Purposeful.” I went into 2013 with the realization that I had become, quite frankly, Boring Mom. No, it’s

From Transformation to Purposeful (New Year Resolutions)

It’s tradition here for me to pick a word for the new year. It’s not quite like New Year Resolutions, and it’s not like I know what the new year will bring or think I will be able to alter my future in any way. It’s more like taking the time to meditate on what God is doing in my life right now and thinking about how I want to grow or learn in the upcoming year and then choosing a word to sum that all up. Be Transformed. Last year’s word was Transformation; it certainly was a year of

Looking Back on 2012

Every year I take a few minutes to look back and remember the special events and blessings we’ve received. The year of 2012 has been an incredible journey! Here are some of the great highlights from this past year, in no particular order: I met Dana from Roscommon Acres in person. And also in 2012, Tiggy’s House was completely funded – yay! Drama Queen took up guitar (and has a talent for it!) I participated in my first ever “10 Days of” series (10 Days of Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Homeschooling) and also joined iHomeschool Network. The church

Looking Ahead to 2012

Ah, yes, it’s that time again. Time for resolutions. Or in my case, a self-evaluation and a new list of habits and goals to work on. And when I say “list” of course I mean “LIST.” Or “really-long-and-incredibly-ambitious-list.” Because as I mentioned last year I’m pretty good at making lists. And the way I see it, when you’re good at something you should stick with it, right? ; ) I can’t believe a whole year has passed already since I made the last big list. I ran out of time for some of them but overall I did pretty well,

Something to work on in the new year…

Sometimes I find it helpful to sit down and make a list of things that are important to me, or the kind of person I want to be, or the things I think God wants me to do with my life. I find it helpful to focus for just a minute. In 2012, among other things, I just want to work on being a better person, a better wife and mother, a better imitation of Christ. I don’t want to just take things for granted, accept second best, or waste what I’ve been given. I want to be what GOD
