Home Decorating

Welcome, new visitor! Come on in. The Classic Housewife is currently undergoing some back end changes. In the meantime I'm re-posting some oldies and goodies. You may also want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Decorating our home is something I could REALLY get into. Unfortunately, it costs money, and most of it just sits there and looks pretty.

It’s kind of hard to justify it when you look at it like that.

Still, we DO want our homes to be inviting and comforting for our families right??

For a long while I haven’t really been in the position to spend any money on things for our home. A lot of what we have has been given to us — not that that’s wrong, it’s not..but the point is that we haven’t even purchased most of what we do have. My inner decorator and homemaker struggled against this for a while, but I came to embrace the things that really mattered most. Family. Food. Shelter. The important things.

Even now that we have a little more room in our budget, I still don’t want to go crazy with my spending. (BELIEVE ME.. it would be EASY.) Instead I’ve been spending a little here, a little there, watching for sales and clearances. I plan on garage sale shopping on the weekends to find good steals there once the season gets in full swing. There’s always the thrift store — you know, stuff like that.

Just because I’m not spending a lot of money doesn’t mean I can’t find or make pretty things to dress up our home. It’ll take a little while longer, but it’ll be more intentional. And I’ll be able to pay attention to where all the money is going.

Decorating our house…five dollars at a time.
