About Me
Welcome, new visitor! Come on in. The Classic Housewife is currently undergoing some back end changes. In the meantime I'm re-posting some oldies and goodies. You may also want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Welcome!
I’m Amber, it’s nice to meet you!
I’ve been a child of God for most of my life, I’ve been married for ten years this past August, I have three children ages 9, 6 and 3, and I’ve been homeschooling for a little over 5 years now. We have two of the best cats ever – Pablo and Austin. I love to sing & play guitar (though I don’t have much time for that!), I’m slightly crafty & artistic, and I’m definitely a people person. Our house is often loud, sometimes messy and rarely boring!
Over the last few years, I’ve been learning a lot about self-discipline, organizing and keeping a cleaner house – evidenced by all the Tuesday Tackles and Organizational Challenges I participate in. My habits and my house have needed an entire overhaul and though I’ve come a long way, I’m still working on my habits and self-discipline. It’s a hard road with 20+ years of bad habits under my belt and three young children under foot!
I’ve also been learning lot about God and who I am as his child. He’s been revealing his heart to me, and opening up my heart to His will. I’ve been working to become a better wife, a better mother, and a better person overall by overcoming my anger issues and short temper, by practicing a better demeanor and softer tone of voice – and by seeking God each day.
When our eldest daughter, Princess, was old enough, we began schooling her here at home. We’ve followed suit with our second daughter, Drama Queen, and now our son, Little Prince. It isn’t something I always wanted to do, but something I’ve been drawn into, little by little. Over the past two years, God’s been stirring my heart to become even more of a homemaker – cooking from scratch, making our own soap, growing some of our vegetables. I’m still pretty new at these things and some things work better than others. At the end of another two years, I’d like to see myself with an actual garden (even if it’s a small one), canning some of our foods, and maybe even sewing. Or knitting. Or crocheting. Or.. something.
Each of these things – my faith, my willing and eager domestic status, my homeschooling – has potential to label me as “a weirdo,” “backward,” or “a doormat” in some people’s eyes. Personally, I know many other people who share my same values and I have a great support system. But I also know that there’s a majority of people who don’t agree with or don’t appreciate the value of a classic housewife.
Balancing all these things, maintaining them in the constant stream of “busy” that accompanies our modern way of life, and seeking God through it all, isn’t easier or faster or remotely close to perfect! But it IS fulfilling, and I’m proud to be “A Classic Housewife in a Modern World.”
Thanks – and come back soon!
