Blogging Tip: Notebooking on Nov 17 , 2009

So, I’m a bit… scatterbrained. Needless to say, there are a zillion things that run through my mind a day, many of them I’d like to write about, most of them forgotten. Or even if I do remember, I’ll sit down to write and have so many things floating through my head that I can’t focus.

I do well with lists and writing things down so a few weeks ago I put two and two together and *duh!* I bought myself a notebook just for blogging. It’s about 5X7 and an inch thick, but the best part is that it’s divided into three sections, allowing me to separate my note taking into 3 different task categories: Blog Maintenaince, Blogging, and Monetization.

As I think of things to write about, or things that I need to work on, I jot them down in my notebook. Later when I have time to write or work on the blog, a quick reference of the notes can get me started in the right direction in just a few minutes.

Also every few days I can intentionally set aside a few minutes to work on some kind of blog maintenance or monetization issue and since I have them all written down, I can knock 2 or 3 tasks off the list in a minimal amount of time.

Streamlining is good.

What tools do YOU utilize to stay on top of blog tasks or writing topics? Or if you’re not a blogger, what kind of projects do you work on that might benefit from a handy dandy 3-subject notebook?

That is a wonderful idea. I’m kind of “duh’ing” myself! Thanks for the tip!

I had a similar *duh* moment and started writing it all down too. Hadn’t thought about separating it into sections, though. Great tip!

I just did something similar – I always have “great” ideas in my head at the most un-opportune times – so I bought a $15 handheld voice recorder and keep it with me (especially when I am out of the house). When I think of something I just record it and then go back and write it down in my “master” list notebook. It seems to help keep those spur of the moment thoughts closer to getting published and shared. Thanks for the idea! I found you from WATF~

I wonder why I didn’t think of it sooner – now I just need a purse big enough to carry it around in. ;)

Actually, I wasn’t looking for a 3-section notebook. I was picking notebooks that were pretty – because I’m like that. ;) Then I realized that it had sections and that was an added bonus. =)

I used to have a handheld recorder, but there’s just something about writing on paper. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to ditch my list-making habit and my love of notebooks, post-its and memo pads. =)

I use a notebook too! I always have one sitting next to me. I also keep one in my purse for when I find myself waiting for someone. Great time to formulate some ideas.

Great idea! I tend to lose all those little slips of paper with my ideas. I sometimes use a little calendar though to organize the my posts for a certain week. I think I need a notebook/ calendar combo. ;)

Great idea! I’ve been doing that, too, but don’t have it organized into sections. I also have started keeping a spreadsheet for some info on giveaways/advertising, etc. But, I’m always looking for new ideas to stay organized!

I list my posts in my notebook, too, and then in the margin the carnivals that they fit in that week. “To do” goes on the bottom.

I also have post ideas in a Word doc so I can copy in links that I want to refer to and reader questions to answer in a future post.
