Thanks for your article and links. I, too, enjoy blogging and initially did not think of it as a money-making scheme. Just recently though, I thought of making a few pennies that would go hand in hand with my blogging would be a good idea. Many moms particularly in the States seem to be doing that.

But as you said 'Traffic First'. I recently launched my first giveaway open worldwide, with relative success. The giveaway is an-almost-new book that I got from my bookshelf. So all I have to do is to fund the international postage. I assume beginner bloggers with intentions to monetize do this- invest a bit just to attract traffic?

Amanda - It's from both and probably some affiliate marketing thrown in. Also some people sell items directly from their blog (ebooks they've written, for example, or blog banners and buttons.) People who're making a living while blogging are using a variety of income sources. It's also worthwhile to note that some people are blogging to make money and some people are trying to make money while blogging. The way you approach it will probably make a difference in results, too.

Me - I'm probably going to write a post about this at some point - I enjoy blogging. I don't want to cross the line over into blogging just to make money. But I DO want to find ways to turn this favorite past-time of mine into a second source of income for us since I stay home and school the kids. It's a balancing act, to be sure. But one that many people are succeeding at, so I'm going to give it a go. :)

I am not into blogging for profit, but I am curious - most of the money made in blogging comes from advertising, right? Is that direct advertising (like people having their buttons on your site) or from running adds (like a widgit)?
